Lea Shelton, along with her twin brother and best friend, heads off to college in New Orleans. She hopes to finally break free from the control of her overprotective mother, who wants to control every aspect of her life. She quickly finds herself immersed in a whirlwind of new friendships and parties. At one of these, held at a venue known for illegal car racing, she meets Raise, a legendary figure. He is nicknamed the King of New Orleans for his racing achievements. It soon becomes clear that Raise has moved in with Lea's brother in the dorm and uses this opportunity to get to know her better. Raise reveals his world to Lea and instills in her a love of cars and illegal racing, but most importantly, of himself. However, a secret eludes him, and it rears its ugly head again, this time with double the force.
