Hideo, Kosaku, and Futa, apprentices at a long-established restaurant in Asakusa, are constantly bullied by the head chef, Chokichi. The three take refuge with the owner Kintaro's dissolute son, Chuji, but end up returning to the restaurant with Chuji. Meanwhile, Kintaro decides to give Chokichi a few days off and use that time to reinstate his former benefactor, Heisaku, as head chef. Seeing this as an opportunity, Chokichi tricks the four into going out to sea on a boat and pushes them into the ocean, but the four, who were supposed to be dead, reappear before Chokichi as soaking wet ghosts.
