Judge Frank Yancey is a dishonest circuit judge known for cheating people. He poisons a mule owned by a man named Jack Slate. Jack later finds out and takes his revenge on the judge. As a result he is on the run from the law. It is based loosely on a true story that took place in Burkett, Texas at the turn of the last century.
