Aimé Strauss, a gruff but tender old man, has owned a quiet stud farm in Mooshoff, in the heart of the Black Forest, specializing in breeding Icelandic ponies, for 30 years. He has made his haven of peace a school of life for horse enthusiasts, regardless of their wealth. But faced with serious financial difficulties and threats from bailiffs, Aimé is forced, after a long period of resistance, to accept the interference of his son-in-law Verner and his grand ambitions to turn the stud farm into an estate reserved for wealthy riders, until his horses and belongings are auctioned off.
